The AAMO 1st Council Meeting 2020 & Extraordinary General Meeting was held on 19th March 2020 via Zoom due to the ongoing Coronavirus global pandemic, with lockdown and travel restrictions imposed in most countries. AAMO representatives including those from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka joined to discuss the current and future plans of the organisation, and also took stock of the proposed programmes and meetings in light of the Coronavirus crisis across the globe.

At the meeting, AAMO representatives focused on working out a road map to enhance the reach and scope of AAMO by reaching out to more nations of the region to join this elite group. Member countries also charted out avenues for closer collaboration between the NMOs to create more platforms for sharing best management practices. As part of this initiative, Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) is organising an online Seminar ‘In the Shadow of COVID-19: Insights on the Impacts and Opportunities for Change’ on 27th May 2020 with AAMO as a Supporting Organisation.

AIMA and the Institute of Managers and Leaders – Australia & New Zealand, are launching the Management Capability Development Index in their respective nations this year, and some other National Management Organisations (NMOs) are evaluating the feasibility to do the same in their countries.

As a result of the Covid-19 crisis across the world, all upcoming AAMO meetings and programmes are being re-evaluated based on the improvement of the current situation. The forthcoming 2nd Council Meeting & 9th AGM is tentatively planned from 20th – 22nd October, 2020 in Hong Kong, coinciding with the proposed HKMA/TVB Awards for Marketing Excellence on 21st October 2020. The schedule of the AAMO Young Managers’ Programme for 2020 – slated in November 2020; and the AAMO Asian Management Games for 2020 – slated in July-August 2020 is also under review.
